SNEAKER COLLECTOR
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hell yes…. My name is Marko Josimovic, I am 38 years old and I live in Eindhoven with my wife Irene and Daughter Tara. I am a designer at USP Fashion in Amsterdam for the brand Kultivate. Coincidentally also neighbors of the Pig & Hen head office. I also have a webshop www.kicksonkanvas.com where I sell all kinds of sneaker art posters I designed myself to pay for my sneaker addiction. I started designing the sneaker art posters during the most boring period of my life last year when the Covid lockdown started. It worked out quite well for me actually.
How did your sneaker appreciation start?
It started quite early in my life. I was always charmed by the Nike brand and I remember seeing a Nike sneaker for the first time with a visible air bubble. I couldn’t believe what I saw dude! And it only got worse when I started playing tennis. In 1990 it went wild. Then you had Andre Agassi who always wore the coolest tennis sneakers (Nike Tech Challenge 2 & 3) and outfits and of course I had to have those too. I was lucky that my parents had enough money to buy them for me. Michael Jordan also played a major role in this, of course, but Jordans used to be a bit more difficult to get in the Netherlands and I was lucky that I had an uncle living in the US who occasionally brought me some Chicago Bulls Jerseys and Jordans. Now I can no longer imagine a life without sneakers.
It might feel like cheating, but what brand is a worthy competitor to Nike?
Honestly? In my opinion, there is currently no one who comes close when it comes to sneakers. Adidas used to be a top brand with a great heritage, but what they’re release nowadays seems as if they have completely lost their way. The only thing they have is the Yeezy line of course, which means they can compete nicely with Nike. Without Kanye, Adidas wouldn’t even exist at all.
You make amazing designs with Kicks on Kanvas, is there a particular collab that you would really like to do?
My dream collab would definitely be an official collab with Nike or Jordan brand. But it wouldn’t be a poster design but a sneaker collab of course. That would be a dream come true. If you have a good connection with people from Nike Netherlands, please let me know and hook me up of course;)
